excerpt from: Statement by Commissioner Šemeta and Vice-President Kroes on Taxation of the Digital Economy

[...] We cannot ignore the challenge to fairly tax digital products and services and the companies that provide them, and we must do so in a way that continues to encourage innovation. We must avoid punitive taxes, and we must ensure equal treatment of equal products and services. Personally I would prefer that taxes are equalised downwards.

The best example for apllying this policy would be Greece. The economy is burdened with heavy direct and indirect taxes, and the country is in dire need of growth and jobs. With unemployment rate greater than that of the great depression of USA, only rapid-growing startups in the digital economy can provide a solution.
